After the introduction in 1933, only 91 D45s have been made until it was discontinued in 1942. The top model of Martin's dreadnought line made its return in 1968 and 230 guitars have been made in that and the following year with Brazilian back and sides. To be even more specific, the last serial number with Brazilian rosewood is #254497. What we have here is a 1969 D45 with serial number #254433 so it is actually one of the very last Martin guitars with Brazilian rosewood! It goes without saying that this is an extremely rare guitar, and we can't use enough superlatives to properly describe this gem. What we do want to highlight is how remarkably clean this D45 is! It's obvious that it has been well cared for all these years. Notable features are the large rosewood bridge plate, non-scalloped X-bracing, and original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines. Also in terms of sound it is everything you could wish for. It has the loud 'booming' dreadnought sound, and the Brazilian/spruce combination makes the tone deep, rich, and perfectly balanced. The back of the body has one repaired crack and a few touch-ups. Otherwise it is still in excellent condition and a great example of a wonderfully preserved vintage guitar. T his is the perfect guitar for any discerning collector or musician! Travels in a hardshell case with TFOA passport.
